This Privacy Policy applies to paceio.de as well as the Paceio app for iPhone and Apple Watch.
Paceio does not require a user account and does not operate a backend for activity data. Running, location, and route data are processed locally on your device and are not transmitted to us. Paceio does not contain any advertising or tracking SDKs, nor any analytics or crash-reporting services integrated by us.

2. Data Processing in the App
Location and Running Data
When the app is open, Paceio uses your current location to display your position on the map and determine GPS availability.
When you start recording a run, the app collects location and motion data during the recording, including in the background where necessary. This data is used in particular to calculate your route, distance, duration, speed, and pace.
Paceio also uses stored running data for running statistics and comparisons over time, for example to display the distance you have run or changes in your pace.
Paceio uses your location in the background only while a run recording initiated by you is active. Activity data is processed on your device and is not transmitted to us.
The processing of personal data required for these purposes is carried out in order to provide the recording, display, storage, and statistics functions you use, on the basis of Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
To the extent that Paceio stores information on your device or accesses information already stored there, this is done without consent only where strictly necessary to provide a function of the app that you have expressly requested (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG).
You can change the location permission at any time in the iOS or watchOS settings. GPS-based run recording is not possible without access to your location.
Local Storage and Backups
Activity data and settings are stored locally on your device. Paceio does not use its own cloud synchronization service or its own backend for this purpose.
If you use a device backup, local app data may be included in that backup. The creation, storage, and deletion of such backups are governed by your settings and the respective backup service. We do not have access to your device backups.
Data is only shared via the sharing function when initiated by you and only with the app or service you select.
Apple Services
Paceio uses Apple Maps to display maps. In this context, technically necessary information may be processed by Apple. Apple’s privacy information applies to this processing.
Paceio does not integrate its own or any external analytics or crash-reporting software. However, as part of its operating system and developer services, Apple may provide us with app statistics as well as crash and diagnostic information.
For regular App Store versions, whether corresponding usage and crash information is shared with developers depends on the Apple privacy settings you have selected.
For beta versions distributed via TestFlight, Apple automatically collects crash and usage data and makes this information available to the app provider. Feedback voluntarily submitted through TestFlight may also be shared with us. Depending on the type of TestFlight invitation, your name and email address may also be visible to us.
We use this information exclusively for troubleshooting and to improve the stability and security of the app and do not separately archive it. To the extent that this information contains personal data, the processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the reliable and secure operation of the app.
Further information about data processing by Apple is available under Apple Privacy.

4. Recipients
Personal data may be processed by STRATO or Apple in connection with the processing activities described above.
If you share content using the sharing function, the app or service you select will also receive the data you choose to share.
Data is otherwise only disclosed where we are legally required to do so or where this is necessary for the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims.
Paceio does not sell personal data and does not disclose it for advertising purposes.
5. Deletion and Your Rights
Locally stored running and route data remains stored on your device until you delete it there. Data contained in device backups created by you is governed by the settings of the respective backup service.
Where we process personal data as the controller, you have, subject to the applicable legal requirements, in particular the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection.
To exercise your rights, you can contact us at connect@paceio.de.
Where a request relates exclusively to activity data stored locally on your device, we do not possess that data and are technically unable to access or delete it for you. Deletion must be carried out on your device.
You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision is generally the supervisory authority responsible for us.

We update this Privacy Policy if privacy-relevant functions or legal requirements change. The current version is available at paceio.de.
